“Weapons of doomsday” – this is a documentary-fantastic novel about the alleged reproduction of rocket-nuclear weapons at a time, when the fare of Ukraine is being solved. This was facilitated by the use of modern military terms and nominations. They are the subject of the analysis in the article.

Keywords: Ukrainian language, military term, nomen, weapons, military operation, combat product, code names of persons.

In the novel by Yurii Shcherbak “Weapons of doomsday” a realistic panorama of the present time, artistically comprehended military events in the Donbas area have been submitted. In this he was greatly aided by the use of modern military terminology and nomens. They are the subject of the analysis in the article by K.V. Panasiuk “Military terminology in the novel by Yurii Shcherbak “Weapons of doomsday”. These are the names of military centers, laboratories, departments, other military-strategic objects, names of companies producing military equipment, weapons, etc.

In the bundle of the work drawing the real situation in Ukraine after annexation of Crimea, the introduction of regular troops in the Donbas area, the prose writer resorts to using military terms. In the report of one of the personages, we read to adherents: “the operational-tactical and strategic situation” has changed. This is a typical common military term. In the same report, it was noted that in the Ilovaisk area enemy could use against the Ukrainian paratroopers “nuclear two kilotons charges “Svitoch” “Smola” or “Fata”. It is also the four-component terms which are used in the modern rocket-artillery industry.

The novelist shows as if a hypothetical situation reproduced by patriots group of rocket-nuclear weapons, at a time when Ukraine’s destiny is being solved. For the purpose of security, these people are forced to cover themselves with code names, call signs, which were used on the front during the Second World War and which are now actively used in the zone of operations of the combined forces. “Nykodym”- call sign of group member, former Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, “Luna” – academician Hlobyn, “Karl Marks” – was a financial of the project and led by a group of men with a call sign “Meduza” - a person, whose surname and position should be unknown. These and other call signs have been  described in the article in detail and have been classified as a military nomens.

The author of the article proves that Yurii Shcherbak managed to create truthful vision of the present because of the use of numerous military terms and nomens, which are being used nowadays by the soldiers of various branches. Their analysis also testifies, that Ukrainian military terminology is constantly evolving and enriching.
