Compound terms with the seme ‘structural element of the building:

features of attributive components

The paper identifies and analyzes the attributive components of two-component terms that are names of structural elements of buildings. The productiveness of these term-word combinations in modern Ukrainian language is revealed.

The features of compound term creation are discussed in the article. A structural and onomasiological analysis has been carried out. In particular, dependent components that specify terms  denoting structural elements of the building are described.

The article focuses on the varieties of onomasiological features of compound terms with the seme 'structural element of the building'. In this regard it seems logical to distinguish attributive components indicating 'constructive solution', 'static scheme', 'type of material', 'connection type', 'type of form', 'form of cross-section’, ‘construction method’, ‘type of construction’, 'basis of design', ‘performance under load’, 'type of filling', 'location', 'direction and way of opening', 'number of layers', ‘purpose', 'degree of fire resistance' and 'performance characteristics'. It has been established that the basis for creation of such terms are usually two-component noun phrases (characterized by a high frequency of use).
